Also in Deer Park, the San Jacinto monument stands 570 feet tall, the tallest masonry stucture in the world and a few feet taller than the Washington Monument. It commemorates the turning point in the Mexican/American war where on April 21, 1836, Sam Houston famously shouted "Remember the Alamo" and commenced a crushing defeat on the Mexican Army.
