Our afternoon tour was through the "Natural Entrance" which humans first discovered more than 4000 years ago. Because of its mostly sandstone cap, this cave isn't as "decorated" as others. There is a unique history here though. These preserved Poplar log pipes once brought water in to the cave for the cultivation of salt peter, a key ingredient of gun powder. The salt peter from this cave was instrumental in the war of 1812.
